In the 1990s many visual artists were inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s films. Unlike the film extensions by Cindy Sherman or Stan Douglas, the applied remakes by Gus van Sant, the revisitations by Chris Marker or the reconstitutions of décor by David Reed, the source material of the installations of the exhibition are fully based on Hitchcock’s films, but with a revolutionary approach reminiscent of John Baldessari, Christoph Girardet, Matthias Muller, Pierre Huygue or Douglas Gordon. However Fiévet does not limit himself to a range of images, to straightforward plays on association or to a conceptual approach which questions the codes of cinema, the means of recounting or perceiving films. Nor does he confine himself to a framework of analytical display which confronts filmic and pictorial works. Rather, the artist exploits the images to raise deeply personal themes or to unsettle the senses of viewers.
